3 Tips On How Discipline a Child
There are many parents out there who are searching for an answer to the question How Discipline a Child? Whether you’re a first time parent or an experienced one there always seems to be that one special child who seems to misbehave despite your best efforts. Here are some tips to help you determine how discipline a child.
Tip 1: Hold Your Child in Your Arms
When your child is throwing a fit, a technique you can use to calm then down is to put your child on your lap and then hold him or her with both your arms. Do not use excessive force. Hold your child down in the initial stages when they will be fighting back. Your child will then go through a stage where they are fuming but will accept the fact that they are restrained. After that they will calm down and that is when you make them listen to you. Just make sure you hold them throughout the whole tantrum. Initially it may take a good 30 minutes to calm your child down, but after they get used to this technique it will take about 10 minutes or less.
Tip 2: Give Your Kid a Good Balance of Activities
Your child’s behaviour will improve when you give them a good balance of activities in their young lives. For example, a day of energetic outdoor activity such as bike riding or running around at the beach should be followed the next day by a calm indoor activity such as reading or arts and craft.
Tip 3: Avoid Tantrum Zones
If you know that your child is going to throw a tantrum in a certain situation, why not avoid it? Now I’m not saying that means you can’t take your child anywhere so that they can’t learn and develop. All I mean is that you avoid clear situations where you know that your child will throw a big tantrum. For example if you know that your child cannot sit still in a restaurant for a few hours then you may have to turn down some of your friends invitations. Your child would have spoilt the dinner experience anyway.
These are just a small sample of techniques on how discipline a child. Is your child embarrassing you in public? Is he or she constantly screaming, arguing, and being disrespectful?
