Tip 1: Be Composed

If you get angry and throw a tantrum yourself, at your child, while they are in the middle of an angry fit, how do you expect them to calm down? It is actually natural for a toddler to get angry. Do not confuse them by getting mad at them and telling them off for having a natural feeling. They actually need your help and love to deal with their feelings and frustrations. Compose yourself. Be calm. Teach them that having angry feelings is normal but becoming violent and hitting people is not acceptable behaviour.

Tip 2: Understand the Cause of Your Child’s Angriness

Is there a certain pattern to your child’s angry behaviour? For example have you noticed that your child is particularly angry when they wake up? Has your child had enough sleep? When children do not receive enough sleep they get extremely temperamental and stressed. They will also get grumpy when tired or hungry.

Tip 3: Let Your Child Go Nuts

Your kid needs to get angry so let them. Give them a pillow to hit as if it were a punching bag or lego to throw (make sure it’s not at another kid though). Let them release their tension and help them calm down.

Kids copy their parent’s behaviour. So one of the most important ways to curb angry child behaviour is to be a role model to your kid. The way you conduct your own anger will influence your kid’s behaviour too, so behave. If your toddler’s child anger management problem is wearisome for you, put yourself in their shoes. They are learning how to handle their child anger management issues too.
